The Declassified College Survival Guide

Useful tips for those entering college from other college students. Take it with a grain of salt and I hope it helps!

i give up

college sucks.

why bother.

there aren’t any jobs anyways.

Final update:

I have a really busy 3 weeks ahead of me.

I’m transferring to a school back in orlando..a community college actually. so i have a shit ton of things to do in order to get THAT ball rolling.

also my roommate hates me and i’m barely passing psychology. awesome.

DORM FINALLY HAS HEAT.

fuck yes

College Tip Number 9:

When driving back to school after a break, don’t leave at 3:30 on sunday…you’ll be stuck in traffic for hours. what is usually a 4 hour drive for me turned into a 7 hour drive. no bueno.

College Tip Number: 8

Set multiple alarms.

I slept through a maths quiz today. not good.

set three on your phone, two on your clock, one on your iPod. and if you don’t wake up, your roommate probably will. and then they’ll just end up waking you up themselves.

College Tip Number 6:

picking classes.

Picking classes is the most vital part about college. Here are some helpful tips.

  • Never space out your classes too much. You’ll be more tempted to go home and sleep and less tempted to go to class. Bad idea.
  • Don’t space them too close either. having 15 minutes to run across campus isn’t exactly the brightest idea ever.
  • Make sure your course load isnt too light or too much. 15 credit hours is the usual, and trust me, it’ll keep you busy but not too busy.
  • Take classes you’ll be good at and you KNOW you’ll enjoy. don’t take a brain and behaviour class for your science credit if you’re terrible at science.
  • Ask around and see what classes people enjoyed, had the most work loads, had shitty teachers, etc.
  • Check rate my professor.com. they have very accurate ratings. i love my psych teacher and they gave him a really good grade.
  • Take days off. Try to take all monday/wednesday/friday classes or tuesday/thursday classes. it’ll give you a LOT more free time.
  • TALK TO YOUR ADVISER AND DON’T SLEEP THROUGH YOUR MEETING. that way you can sign up for the good classes early and not get pinned with classes that make you want to commit suicide.
  • One last thing: if you take a class your friends have taken or are taking, don’t be afraid to study with them or ask them for help. I’m terrible at maths but i’m taking stats next semester. if i ever need help, I have 6 or 7 friends in that class this semester so i can always get their help if i need it.

ps: sorry for the terrible grammar towards the end. My wrist is in a brace, making typing super painstaking.

alright guys

i’ve had a rough couple of weeks, but this week i’ll get back into the swing of posting things.

college is tough. it takes everything out of you. its lonely. it’s fantastic.

after a few good cries and plenty of long talks with great people, i think i have everything sorted out, my head on right, and my tears all gone.

i’ll post more tomorrow. that’s a promise.

College Tip Number 5:

NEVER. EVER. EVER. EVER.  do laundry on saturdays.

EVER.

I decided that im out of clothes and i needed clothes so i was going to go do laundry.

there’s half the fucking dorm in the laundry room, 6 washers and 2 driers.

you can guess who’s clothes arent dried.

College Tip Number 4:

Getting sick sucks.

Eat healthy, carry germx around, get enough sleep, drink water, and take your vitamins.

I just got sick this weekend, and I’m on bedrest today. not exactly how I wanted to spend my day, but i need to get better. I think its a sinus infection, but the Doctor’s on campus didn’t formally diagnose me, nor did they give me antibiotics. so my shitty immune system has to fend for its self this week. which is never good. also; when they recommend a decongestant and you’re out, make sure you tell someone to get you EXACTLY what kind you want…. >.<

yay college.

if you do get sick, go to the dr, get a dr’s note, and SLEEP AND DRINK AND EAT LOTS OF SOUP.

College Tip Number 3:

Meal plans.

if you live on campus, get a meal plan. don’t get the all access pass if you know you’re not going to use it.

i have the 7 day unlimited meals + $500 flex bucks.

I eat MAYBE once a day at the dining hall and usually snack on things in my dorm. weekends i tend to eat out more because im usually out with friends.

get the meal plan you KNOW will work best for you. if your dorm is right by the dining hall, i suggest at least a 2 meal per day plan. you’ll be more motivated to go.
